Songs I’ve Lived – The Rolling Stones – Mixed Emotions

So, I’ve decided to start a few series of music & song related posts. This one is for songs that have fit parts of my life entirely too well during times in my life over the years 😎

Now, I might go into deeper details of exactly WHY and HOW a particular song fits in. You might just have to use your imagination 😁 That said, I’ll try to explain it 😉

In this case, I’ve been a Rolling Stones fan for quite a few decades. This one fits in a few ways. My brother has been a Rolling Stones fan for my entire life. I’ve been a fan since I can remember. We’ve been to five of their concerts together. The Steel Wheels album was released in August of 1989 and I had it on CD in high school and I always thought this was an awesome song.

Now, that last paragraph is entirely true. But that’s not the whole story. Go through the lyrics and you’ll see there’s a deeper meaning. As in relationships between a couple of people.

Yes, it goes that deep and much deeper. No, I’m not going to fill in those gaps.

But it’s definitely a song I’ve lived more than once!

Adventure Riding

My V-Star 650 Classic out on the Wedge Overlook back in 2012

Back in 2012 when I moved up here from Las Vegas, I decided to take a ride on some dirt roads my motorcycle was definitely NOT made to travel. This pic is from the Wedge Overlook on the San Rafael Swell. Click here to see the Wedge Overlook on Google Maps 😉

This was an especially fun ride because I nearly crashed several times. Please understand that I had no cell service and nobody knew where I was or what I was doing LOL! Good times 😎

Hazy Shade of Winter Today

Today reminded me of one of my favourite 80s songs. It’s a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song called Hazy Shade of Winter by The Bangles.

As you can see, the terms hazy, drab, gloomy, icy, and snowy all describe the weather and overall feel of the weather in central Utah today.

Now, for those not familiar with the song, I invite you to click above and see what a difference a song makes 😉 This is what I think of anytime the weather turns like this and it always brightens my day 😎

The Cockpit of an SR-71 Blackbird is Pretty Cool!!!

It’s been quite a few years now (IIRC about 15 or so) since I stumbled into the opportunity to have a seat in the cockpit of an actual SR-71 Blackbird. I’d gone to the airshow at March Field in SoCal with my friend Adrienne. We went to the March Field Air Museum first before going to the Air Reserve Base across the field.

Now, I knew the museum had an SR-71 Blackbird. I didn’t expect to see a ladder with a sign saying it was $5.00 to sit in the cockpit! Still near the top of the fastest times I’ve had my wallet out and near the top of the best $5 I’ve spent LOL!

Good times 😎👍

New Camera!

Let’s face it – Most people aren’t too into point and shoot digital cameras these days. It seems like everyone only uses the camera that’s built into pretty much every cellphone these days.

I have a couple of Samsung tablets (the cameras aren’t great, but they’re there) and an iPhone 8+ (which has decent cameras). So why did I get a separate camera?

First off, this camera was on clearance for about $25. There are plenty of times when I’m taking pics that expose the camera to a distinct risk of damage/destruction/loss. I’d much rather deal with the loss of $25 than losing something much more expensive.

Secondly, this new camera has 32GB of storage, a good long-life rechargeable battery, a tripod mounting socket, and importantly a five power zoom.

I think it’ll be fun and interesting to see the differences between images from my phone, tablets, and this new camera.

Computer Upgrades!

When I found a need to be able to pull pics off of an SD card, I thought the Lightning connector equipped card reader I’d bought a while back to use with my iPhone would be good enough. Sadly, I got the message that the device was not supported when I tried to use it.

I started thinking of a good way to do this without breaking the bank. Cheap laptop from eBay? SD card equipped with WiFi?

I remembered that I had a desktop PC from a while back that was sitting at Cindy’s place. It’s from 2007/2008, it was running XP, but it had been functional. Still XP… Not exactly supported…

With some help from my friends, that old computer is running Windows 10, it now has two hard drives (1TB each), it has 3.5GB of RAM, and it’s running nicely!!!

My desktop PC might not be new or fast, but it’s working well for what I need 😎

Cyber Issues – Upgrading Old Hardware

So, I’ve gotten by with a couple of cheap 8″ Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablets and an iPhone 8+ as my tools for interacting on the web for the last few years. I had a laptop for a little while, but let’s just say something bad happened to it while it was on my truck. This isn’t exactly optimal.

There is one other computer that I hadn’t mentioned yet though. It’s my old tower/desktop that’s quite old. I can’t remember exactly how old it is, but I think it’s somewhere around 10-12 years old. I’m not planning on doing anything extreme with it – Just pulling pics off of SD cards, light photo editing, email, surfing the web, and blogging. None of that requires the latest and greatest, bleeding edge, gold plated computing marvel. That said, look up above at the pics in this post and you’ll see that there’s plenty of room for imrovement.

And speaking of improvement, there’s a lot of that happening right now. The hard drive and RAM are being upgraded. The operating system might be upgraded as well.

I’ll have updates on everything soon!

I’m Back AGAIN!!!

So… Welcome back AGAIN LOL! I had a WordPress blog installed here before, but something went wrong. I’d thought I’d be able to change the admin password and more when Iwas setting everything up. I should have been able to do that, but there was a glitch. I looked into a bunch of possible fixes, but to no avail. I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall WordPress. Yeah, Iwasn’t too thrilled, either.

In any case, I’m back up and working now and looking forward to building a fun personal blog like I’ve had in the past!
